Kennywood '09

Growing up our favorite theme park was a park 5 hrs. from home but just minutes from my Grandmothers house in PA. During the summer this was by far one of the best days of all, a trip that my brother and I always loooked forward to. I never knew when the time would come for H & H to make it to Kennywood, but with GG passing during Aug. the time presented inself in her honor.

L to R: Matt and Nathan enter Kennywood, Harrison awaiting his turn on the Turnpike, G'pa and Harrison ride a blue car, Harrison saying "we wait in line Mom"!

Grandpa excited to take W.H. on the turnpike.

Harrison rode this fancy lion that was stationary. After this ride we thought we'd see how the kids would do on the up-and-down horses.

Waiting for the bell to ring, signaling to all that the ride was about to set into motion. (Love that new haircut on our little guy!!)

There I am on the merry-go-round. Children do bring out the child in you, isn't that the best!

Hailey waited this first merry-go-round ride out with DaDa.

After the Merry-go-Round we measured Harrison and to my suprise he was right at 36" line, a height that allowed him (with a riding partner) to ride more than I ever thought he would be belting into that day. After finding this out Daddy, Harrison and I did his first big water ride together, the Raging Rapids. Waterfalls, geysers and water guns from onlookers drench riders as they traverse the course down the river. It was so cute to see his face when the first surge of water jumped into our raft. It was definitely a "what the...are you going to do something about this Mom?" look. Then I started screaming as I got drenched by a waterfall and even though he was a little bit fearful himself, he made sure to ask "are you alright Mom"?!! Such a cutie.

Horsing around with G'ma.

Things are starting to move around here... not so sure about this. Hailey loved the merry-go-round ...going round and round, but the horses going up and down made her nervous.
Another ride on the merry-go-round. What!? We only got to ride it 4 times Mom!

One tired guy with his DaDa and Uncle.

That straight up in the air wave is my Dad's hand. Mom and Dad were riding partners on the Tunderbolt! Nathan and I waited for the front car the 2nd time we rode this coaster. It's got an awesome start when you drop right away after leaving the platform. For an oldie wooden coaster it gets going over 50 mph (the seatbelt are measly on the oldies...eekk).

..

H & H play skeeball! Hailey going to retrieve W.H. more balls.

"motor-ky-cles"

..
HARRISON's 1st ROLLER COSTER RIDE: Grandma B. was definitely smiling down on Harrison as he rode the Jack Rabbit, his first roller coaster at 2 yrs. old!! W.H. rode the Jack Rabbit for a 2nd time before leaving the park.

Just love this turn on another favorite wooden coaster. This coaster is especially fun at night because it has a tunnel which is pitch black after dusk. It's been a favorite since 1921 and has a 70' double dip drop.
...
Here's to you Grandma B.! Grandma's last ride on the Jack Rabbit was at 72! I was waiting in line, the line moved faster than we thought it would, and I was in need of a riding partner. Mom came back to ride with me as G'ma B. and I exited the coaster with biggest grins ever.

Oh how I remember the 'ole measuring stick to see if the kids were tall enough to get on certain rides. Kierney was always too little and would get sooo upset when she couldn't ride some of the roller coasters... Loved the old wooden roller coasters at Kennywood- especially the one with the big dip...A. Valerie

Looks like a lot of fun! And I'm sure your grandma was smiling down & glad to see the fun goes on! I love the story about her riding the coaster at 72!
