susan magnolias + front beds

Our neighbors let us borrow their pick-up truck for the weekend to get any large supplies and trees that we needed. We got 4 of these pretty susan magnolias to add to our tree line out back.
My lilies are blooming.
Zone 7b...lots to learn. To my surprise our hearty mums are blooming. I had been cutting them back 6" and a few weeks ago they formed buds in early June. I knew I couln't keep tabs on pinching these back until Sept/Oct. I was also worried that if I cut them back again that they would not form buds in the falls. Time to resort to the web. I read online that some gardeners get their mums to bloom twice a year!! Once In the summer and then again in the fall. I sure hope these are double bloomers. For now we are enjoying pink and yellow mums. Look at these pansies too, I can't get over how well they are doing in the GA heat. I had one species die off when we had 100 degree weather, but these posted above are super hearty. (that's Harrison's bull frog among the pansies)
Susan Mag. lined up out back. I just love the lime green leaves.

Here is an awesome picture of a Susan Mag. in bloom.

...
Post about the pic above: A hybrid Magnolia which blooms in mid spring to escape late frosts. Compact habit makes it excellent for small gardens and large containers. Often sporadic flowers produced in summer. This one's in my front yard and it really needs to be trimmed although I must admit it's been stellar this Spring!

Some of my mums are blooming as well... I've had this happen before and they do come back and bloom in the fall-sometimes a little later than those that didn't bloom in the summer...Nice to have color a little longer in the fall
