Guten Tag-- from the Sloans in Munich, Germany! We made it without any delays with a transfer in Zurich, Switzerland and then on to MUC. Landing among the Alps was beautiful and eyeing these beauties from such an altitude was amazing. We can’t wait to make the trip soon to see their majesty up close.
--FREE Subway?
We bought tickets, didn’t see any swinging gates, gaurds…hrmmm well let’s ride! After this mishap and speaking with our landlord about our lengthy train ride for free we quickly found out that we were doing something wrong. After this Nathan and I each bought a monthly pass for the U-bahn (underground train pronounced oo-bahn). It’s been our best purchase (except for the many different biers of course). Now we don’t have to worry about purchasing tickets, taking the time to buy tickets or calculating the correct fare. The trains in Munich are not like the DC Metro—there are no “gates” to keep you from going in and out. It is an honor system where you buy your ticket, stamp it on your own and ride. There are sporadic honor checks and if you do not have a ticket you are fined 40 Euros.

--World Football Match --Deutschland v. Italia
Schuss (shoot) We need a goal!! German flags were worn by many and flown from every car window and clamped to every bicycle. It was a game of many efforts, both played well with the Italians defeating the Germans in overtime: 2-Nil. We spent the first half in an Irish Pub, eating & drinking Weissbeir by the pitcher. There were 12 of us total-GWU students + significant others. As the host city we’ll still find heightened festivities as Portugal plays in Munich the winner of another match. We were looking forward to the crazy streets after a German win, but we’ll still find excitement!!

So far we have been to:
Isator- The Isar River –Isator Platz
The English Gardens- largest city park on the continent. Beware of the nude!
Marienplatz- Munich’s Main Sq., close to Nathan’s school
Viktualien Market- Munich’s open air market & beer garden
Hof Garden
New Town Hall- famous for it’s 100 yr. old Glockenspiel
Schwabing-district
Our Trip to the Isar River:

Collections: 1 L. beer mug from the Chinese-pagoda beer garden 1 L. beer mug from festivities last night during the game
Auf Wiedersehen!! (Good-bye)
